Cold plate compliant to medical requirements 100% rustproof, 100% tight Context and problem to solve : Dynamic X ray photography in hospital environment, during cardio-vascular surgery, requests the use of high tech detectors. It is necessary to cool and homogenize the temperature of electronic components located on the X ray detector boards of the customer in order to stabilize and improve the imagery quality. The whole is confined in hermetic case and requires an absolute reliability of the cooling system. Constraints : ■ Internal and dimensional architecture is defined, available space for the cooling function is very restricted, but the electronic board remains to be defined in parallel with the cooling system. ■ Global power dissipated per electronic board from 60 to 72W ■ Homogeneity of the components temperature : ±2°C. ■ Necessity to warranty an optimal functioning over 10 years (0 cooling defect, 0 corrosion, 0 leak). ■ A large surface to cool versus its thickness. Development of the study : 1- working out and pre size of a solution based on water cooled cold plate in stainless steel vacuum brazed. 2- simulation thanks to a thermal calculation software of each finished element and advice on the location of electronic components on the boards. 3- realization and validation tests of prototypes : corrosion, watertight, pressure, pressure drop, compliance to the UL standard. 4- manufacture of a pre series. 5- industrialization and production in series. Concrete result : The customer’s request has been satisfied, the cooling of the detector is highly satisfactory. Due to the success of this system, quantity under production has been tripled within 2 years. |
